Philip Sowerbutts - Vicar (Senior Minister)

Philip is married to Claire and they have two teenage children. Before being ordained, Philip did a variety of jobs in primary education and teacher training. He was also a trainer for Blackburn Diocesan Sunday School Teachers association. He trained for the ministry at Oak Hill Theological College in London where he now also occasionally teaches ordinands about music in church and on the Spirituality module. Philip is also a trainer for Lichfield Diocese CME in the areas of Music and Church Leadership. Before coming to Stafford he was the Acting Vicar of St Luke’s, Willerby in the East Riding Of Yorkshire after serving a curacy at St Andrew’s Kirk Ella with Jonathan Juckes. Philip has, on several occasions, served as a musician at Word Alive and at both the London and Northern Men’s Conventions. Philip is also the archivist at The Keswick Convention. His hobbies are collecting vinyl records for his beloved Rowe AMI Juke Box, supporting Blackburn Rovers FC and writing and recording music. His album 'Grace' was released in 2008.

Rev Phil Mullins – Curate (Associate Minister)

Phil is married to Chloe who is a nurse. They have a young daughter. Phil was converted as a student at Cambridge where he was discipled and taught the Christian faith at St Andrew The Great. Before training for the ministry at Oak Hill Theological College, Phil worked on the staff of All Saints, in Crowborough. Phil leads a camp each summer for CPAS Ventures. At Castle Church Phil oversees Mens Ministry and Christianity Explored. He is well-travelled and has worked all around the world including Sydney and amongst the slums of Delhi! In his spare time Phil enjoys hiking, swimming, skiing, amateur photography.

Youth Worker – Owen Cornford (Part Time)

Owen is married to Dani, a pharmacist, and together they are proud owners of Teejay the dog! Owen graduated from Liverpool University with a degree in Sports Science. Alongside his part-time work for Castle Church, Owen works for Stafford Sports Performance Academy and is studying Christian Youth Work at Oak Hill Theological College. Owen is a huge rugby and cricket fan and is a qualified cricket coach.

Anna Barrett – Ministry Assistant

Anna is from Bromley in Kent. After graduating with a degree in Sports Science, Anna has worked for a Children’s Sports Camp Organisation and as a Classroom Teaching Assistant. Most recently she has led a Mission Team for Crosslinks in Thailand and has assisted with Children’s Ministry at a Church in Australia. Anna works for Castle Church alongside her study at the Midlands Ministerial Training Course in Birmingham.

Dr Emma Price – Pre-School Co-ordinator (Fridays only)

Emma is married to Colin and they have two children. She has done a variety of jobs including University Lecturer, teaching pre-school sign-language and admin work. She has a Phd in English Literature specialising in the writing and religion of Elizabeth Gaskell. Emma works for Castle Church part time alongside her work for Staffordshire University. Her role includes running the Parent and toddler group each Friday.

Rev Roy Ball – Honorary Associate Minister

Roy is been is married to Joke (pronounced Yorka) who is Dutch. He has worked as a minister all over the world from Stockport and Fazelely to chaplaincies with Intercontinental Church Society in France, Eastern Europe and Holland! Having retired to Staffordshire, Roy helps out with the teaching and preaching ministry at Castle Church as well as running the largest home group. He also provides clergy holiday cover for those serving in Europe with ICS as Missionaries.

Rev Alan Hodson – Honorary Associate Minister

Alan is married to Jan and is a retired Baptist Pastor. He has led churches in London, South Wales, Brighton and Scotland. Alongside his teaching and mentoring work at Castle Church, Alan is working towards a Phd on the Holy Spirit in the book of Hebrews and is a widely published theologian

Christine Sykes – Honorary Associate Minister (Pastoral Care)

Christine is married to Ian and they have an adult daughter Lizzie. Chris is a long-standing member of Castle Church and was lay-reader before being called to ordained ministry. Before ministry, both Ian and Christine worked in the coal industry. Christine co-ordinates pastoral care at Castle Church and leads a daytime Bible Study Group for ladies.

Dr Ros Clarke - Theology and Women's Pastor

Ros works for Lichfield Diocese as their ‘Online Pastor’. Ros taught Greek and Hebrew at Westminster Theological Seminary in America and was theologian in residence at a church in Philadelphia before returning to the UK to work for Tyndale House. She is a widely published theologian and her Phd is on the Old testament book ‘Song Of Songs’ having written the accompanying notes for the book in the recently published NIV Proclamation Bible. At Castle Church, Ros leads discipleship, predominantly amongst the younger women of the church and advises on areas of theology and apologetics.

Dalena Deall - Administrator

Dalena is married to Les and they have two grown-up daughters. Before working for Castle Church, Dalena worked as a PA for Areva. As well as day-to-day administration, Dalena co-ordinates the weddings at Castle Church.

Pauline Howard – Verger/Caretaker

Pauline has been the verger/caretaker for Castle Church for over 40 years. She is married to Roy and they have three sons.
